What does "on my own" mean?
Summer Days Camp is for children who have had prior separation experience. This means that your child must have had prior classroom experience without a parent or a caregiver in the classroom, (nursery school or an activities program).
What is the birthday cut-off date?
Children are grouped by age. The birthday cut-off date is May 31st.
What does a 2 week minimum mean?
Campers must sign up for a minimum of 2 weeks, but they do not need to be consecutive. Additional weeks can be added on, depending on availability. Please keep in mind that weeks fill up quickly and we may or may not be able to accommodate your request for extra weeks.
May I sign up with my friends? What if there is a group of several children who would like to be together in the same group?
Absolutely! If you would like to sign your child up with a friend, we strongly recommend that you both sign up at the same time, as we do not reserve spots. We also ask you to both write the other child's name on the space provided on the registration form. We will try to accommodate all requests to be grouped with friends of the same age, but cannot always accommodate everyone, particularly when weeks are added on.
What is a typical day like?
Each week's curriculum is designed around a specific theme such as "Barnyard Buddies" or "Growing in the Garden". The daily schedule includes free choice, circle time, snack, story time and songs, structured playtime (cooking, art projects, crafts and science), movement games, and outdoor/water play. Children who join us until 3:00 p.m. will enjoy lunch (parent supplies a bag lunch and drink), rest, additional outdoor/water play, additional art projects, and scheduled afternoon time in 74th St. MAGIC's gym.
Can you tell me about the Summer Days Camp staff?
Julie Flansbaum, MS ED, is both the Director of Summer Days Camp and of 74th St. MAGIC. Previously, she was the Head Teacher for the Fours/Fives and Coordinator of the Emergent Math Program at Epiphany Community Nursery School.
The Summer Days Camp staff is comprised of early childhood trained teachers from Epiphany Community Nursery School, as well as outside college and graduate students who are pursuing degrees in education. Many have been with us for a number of summers.
May I see the facility/schedule a tour?
